Lawson Projects Celebrates 40 Years!

Lawson Projects builds on 40 years of success

In 1976, Colin Lawson decided to return to Calgary after a brief stay in his native Australia and launched his own project management company that today is celebrating its 40lh anniversary as Lawson Projects.

Independent project managers helping with construction scheduling and cost control were not a common service back then, but Lawson got his big break when TransAlta planned its new head-office tower at 12th Avenue and 1st Street S.W. He was hired as the company's liaison with the general contractor.

Weadick Bridge

A new bridge that spans the Elbow River, from main Stampede Park to the Stampede’s new ENMAX Park, was recognized by the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) for its thoughtful design that accommodates western lifestyle and flood resistance. The bridge was completed in June 2015, just in time for Stampede, to replace the old “blue bridge” that was lost during the flood of 2013.

The Calgary Stampede is known for having the best in all things western and ever since last year has become known for the flood of 2013; the new bridge on Stampede Park brings both of these together! The Stampede began installing a new bridge to replace the blue bridge that was washed away in last year’s flood. This new bridge will be more durable and flood resistant. It also takes into consideration our western heritage by adding in western features, for example, the “bracing members” on the bridge were designed high enough above the bridge deck to allow a person on horseback to comfortably pass below the bridge structure!
